Winter in the Mountains
 The
Elk River Touring Center is located on Hwy 219
five miles from Snowshoe Mountain Resort WV and
seven miles from the Highland Scenic Highway.
Our location and exceptional service make Elk
River the destination for Snowshoe Mountain
Rentals. Our elevation at 2750' is high enough
to receive an annual snowfall of about 180
inches per year! Snowshoe Mountain WV is perhaps
the best Cross Country Ski Resorts In West
Virginia.
We promote Cross Country Skiing In West Virginia on the trails
which criss-cross the Highland Scenic Highway
150, which peaks at an elevation of around
4700'. The downhill skiing at nearby Snowshoe
Mountain peaks at 4848', making for two of the
highest (and snowiest!) points in West Virginia.
Pocahontas County is surrounded by the
Monongahela National Forest, creating a
wonderland for snowshoers, winter hikers, and
skiers. Come visit the natural beauty of this virgin land.
Trails
**Cross Country & Snowshoeing is dependent
upon natural snowfall.**
Five kilometers of trails are adjacent to the
Elk River Touring Center and border the national forest.
Thirty-five additional kilometers criss-cross
the Highland Scenic Highway which is
not maintained for motorized vehicles in the
winter.
Sometimes we pack the trails around the center
with a snowmobile, but no high tech grooming is
available. Trails range in elevation from 2730'
to 4750'. Average snowfall is 150-200" annually.

Equipment
 Rentals for adults and children: pull sled,
snowshoes, backcountry. We rent waxless skis,
which are easy to use in varying snow
conditions.

Repairs and Service
We can tune and wax skis, replace bindings,
fix poles.
Retail Shop
We carry a small selection of new equipment,
clothing, wax, and rental equipment which is
also sold periodically. Shop hours are 9.00am -
4:30pm daily.
