Elk River Touring Center's wilderness snowshoeing program offers a variety of trips: afternoon sunset and evening hike ascending up into the Spruce Forest and ridgeline of Gauley Mountain and its headwaters.

Day 1: Arrive and check into your room or cabin. Dress for the outdoors and enjoy the powder with some late afternoon hot tea at an old Forest Service shelter while catching beautiful sunset views along a wilderness loop trail then descend back down the mountain at dark to Elk River Touring Center. Relax with dinner at Elk River Restaurant.

Day 2: Wake up to fresh snow hot coffee and a full breakfast. Go over equipment and pack your lunch. Day long backcountry hike with lunch and hot tea ascending up the remote drainage of Laurel Run in the Monongahela National Forest to Sharp Knob at 4500 feet and descending back down to ERTC. Return to the Inn for a relaxing dinner near the fireplace.

Day 3: Another great breakfast and then make your way to Highland Scenic HWY 150-Red Spruce Knob Trail (405) looping 5-10 miles depending on when folks need to get on the road for the trip home.

These trip notes can change depending on weather and physical condition of the guests.
