Slatyfork Singletrack Weekend Tour

Day One - Arrival
You should prepare to arrive at the Elk River Touring Center Friday afternoon, anytime between 1-3pm. The Center is located on an old sheep farm on the headwaters of the Elk River. Hosts Gil and Mary will show you to one of the ten B&B rooms. If renting a bike, you will be fitted at this time.

At 3pm we meet the other guests and set off on some nearby loops that will give you the feel for the singletrack of Slatyfork, for a total of 8 miles of riding. It's then back to the Inn and clean up for dinner. The chef at Elk River Restaurant prepares a fantastic meal. After dinner you may want to tinker with your bike or soak in our outdoor hot tub.

Day Two
Saturday's ride will begin early, putting to practice the techniques learned Friday, on the best singletrack in the area. After breakfast we will ride (5.0 miles, 1500') or shuttle up to Tea Creek Trail. We will cycle across the ridge to the headwaters of the Gauley River before circling the top of Gauley Mtn. and exploring some of the many old roads and trails that meander across its top. Lunch will be packed and carried, so that you may snack all day at your leisure. You can either shuttle or do a complete loop back to the Center, where we will have a fine dinner and relax. After dinner a tech session will illuminate the mysteries of bike maintenance and trail side repairs. (16-24 miles)

Day Three
Sunday, after breakfast we will shuttle up to the Gauley Mountain trail head off West Virginia's Highland Scenic Highway, trail traverses the ridge on an old railroad grade, lined with rhododendron and spruce trees. Descending back to Elk River will take us down forest service road 24 with an option for more technical singletrack at the base of the mountain. (10 miles) Then we enjoy a delicious buffet lunch before departing about 1-2 PM. -Ride routes may vary due to weather, group ability, and trail conditions, etc.
